The Philadelphia Association of Paralegals offers five (5) membership categories so that our members are comprised of a diverse group of individuals and organizations. They are as follows:
1)         Voting Members: Any person who is employed as a paralegal may apply to become a Voting Member and upon approval of application will be entitled to one vote on all matters which require the vote of members of PAP.
2)         Associate Members: Any person who has completed a course of paralegal study, but who is not employed as a paralegal at the time of application for membership or any person who has been employed as a paralegal, but who is not employed at the time of annual renewal of membership may become an Associate Member and upon satisfaction of the requirements for a Voting Member, may become a Voting Member. Associate Members are considered non-voting members of PAP.
3)         Individual Sustaining Members: Any individual who is not accommodated by the Voting Member or Associate Member classes of membership but who is interested in supporting the purposes of the Association may become an Individual Sustaining Member. Individual Sustaining Members are non-voting members of PAP.
4)         Institutional Sustaining Members: Any partnership, association, corporation or other entity interested in supporting the purposes of the Association may become an Institutional Sustaining Member. Institutional Sustaining Membership is a non-voting membership class.
5)         Student Members: Any person who is enrolled in a formal course of study intended to lead to a position as a paralegal. Student Members are non-voting members of PAP. Student membership is convertible to a Voting, Associate or Sustaining Membership category when the member's status changes upon completion of the course of study.

Members in all categories are entitled to the following benefits of membership:
National Membership

Each member of PAP is also a member of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations through an apportionment of dues. NFPA member benefits include the receipt of the quarterly magazine The National Reporter, various discounts, participation in grassroots policymaking and CLE seminars. All PAP members also have access to the "Members Only" section of the NFPA website which contains useful information for all NFPA members. Meetings

The Board of Directors schedules monthly meetings that are open to all members and which provides an opportunity to participate in the development and the governing of the organization.

Continuing Education

The Association sponsors seminars and workshops designed to increase paralegal knowledge and skills. These programs cover a range of topics that are of interest to paralegals.

Newsletter

The Philadelphia Forum, a quarterly newsletter, informs members of upcoming activities, events and newsworthy items pertaining to the profession.

Programs

Luncheon meetings are held bi-monthly and feature speakers on various topics of interest to the paralegal community. Social activities are also offered each year.

Job Bank

The Association maintains a job bank service for members. Listings include positions available in various specialties of law within the academic, commercial and legal communities. The Job Bank Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and updating the Job Bank including responding to calls from employers wishing to list positions, compiling the information, and sending out the job listings on a monthly basis to those paralegals wishing to receive it. Employers and legal staffing agencies may posting job listings in the job bank FREE OF CHARGE. The job bank is updated two times each month with new job postings.

All members are entitled to enjoy the deep discounts on Avis' already low promotional rates for vacation or leisure travel. Keystone Alliance

The Philadelphia Association of Paralegals is also a member of the Keystone Alliance of Paralegal Associations. Keystone Alliance is a non-partisan, non-profit organization, formalized in 1996, from groundwork laid in the 1980's by paralegal associations in Pennsylvania. The Alliance provides a state-wide voice for paralegals in Pennsylvania, monitors development in the profession and promotes the profession in Pennsylvania. Member associations of the Keystone Alliance include: - Central Pennsylvania Paralegal Association - Chester County Paralegal Association - Lancaster Area Paralegal Association -Lycoming County Paralegal Association -Montgomery County Paralegal Association -Philadelphia Association of Paralegals -Pittsburgh Paralegal Association - York County Paralegal Association.
