WELCOME TO THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE!
The Professional Development Committee (PDC) was founded in 2000. The Committee sends paralegals to area schools, colleges, and paralegal programs to speak about the paralegal profession. The Committee also focuses on key issues facing the profession, such as educational opportunities, salary issues, the PACE exam offered by NFPA, and promoting better utilization and development of paralegals. The Committee organizes several events throughout the year, including a Student Forum and the Joan Weldon Scholarship award. It is also responsible for the development and distribution of the Paralegal Connection Program and The Career Guide.
About The PDC Connection Program
The Paralegal Connection Program (PCP) was created in 2009 by the Professional Development Committee. Our mission is to help future leaders of the paralegal profession succeed in the legal industry.
- Provide mentorship
- Increase PAP’s on-campus presence
- Promote the paralegal profession
- Promote PAP membership & volunteerism
Mentorship is an important part of the program. We provide paralegal students and new paralegals ("Mentees") with an opportunity to learn from and network with experienced paralegals and other professionals (“Mentors”). It also serves as a peer-to-peer empowerment resource for experienced paralegals to maximize their potential in the legal industry. The Mentors will share real world knowledge, perspectives and wisdom gained over the course of their experience in the industry. By becoming part of the professional network of working paralegals and other professionals in the legal community, the Mentor can help Mentees reach positive academic, career, and personal goals. To participate as a Mentor or Mentee, please complete the 2012 Mentorship package.
PROMOTING THE PROFESSION
The paralegal profession is an exciting and rewarding career. It has been described as one of the fastest growing and in-demand professions of the 21st century. We are committed to advance and promote the profession at each opportunity.
INCREASING OUR PRESENCE
We believe it is our duty to have a strong presence on school campuses within the Delaware Valley to offer consistent guidance and assistance to those students entering the paralegal field. Our goal is to participate in campus events, attend student advisory board meetings and other events to positively impact the paralegal student population.
